Who Am I?
Hello, and welcome. I'm Sam at SC Sport Psychology and I am a sport psychologist in training, currently enrolled on CASES Supervised Experience Pathway (SEPAR). I am based in Newbury and offer sport psychology services to athletes, teams, and performers in the surrounding areas, as well as throughout the UK through flexible delivery formats.
Alongside my academic training, I bring experience from lifelong involvement in sport, which strongly informs my applied perspective. I have participated in sport from an early age, most notably through football and competitive martial arts, and I hold a black belt in Wado-ryu karate. I also achieved four medals at the British National Championships at junior level, experiences that have further shaped my understanding of discipline, competitive performance, and performing under pressure. In addition I have experience working with amateur tennis players, where I aided performance and reduced competition anxiety within a research setting.
My approach is evidence-based and athlete-centred, combining strong academic foundations with real-world sporting experience. As I am at an early stage in my applied training, I adopt a cautious and methodical approach wherever possible, drawing on well-established and reliable psychological frameworks to guide practice. At the same time, I place a strong emphasis on understanding each client as an individual, ensuring that any interventions are appropriately tailored to your needs, context, and goals. My work is underpinned by a fully open and transparent approach: clients are informed of all decisions made within the support process, and, importantly, the rationale behind those decisions, to ensure shared understanding, trust, and collaborative working.
